Hi there, I’m Jeff Johnson, author of The Love Goblin and proud founder of Bailey Way Books. As parents, teachers, and caregivers, we all want the children in our lives to grow up feeling confident, connected, and valued. One of the best ways to help them along that path? Teaching them the power of friendship and inclusivity.

Friendship isn’t just about having fun together—it’s about understanding, kindness, and making sure no one feels left out. Whether it’s inviting a new classmate to play, taking turns in a game, or listening to a friend’s feelings, these small actions make a big difference.
In my book The Love Goblin, I wanted to show kids that love grows when we share it—and the same goes for friendship. When children learn to reach out, include others, and celebrate differences, they build strong relationships that can last a lifetime.
So, how can we encourage inclusivity?
Model it – Kids learn from what they see! Show them how to welcome new people with kindness.
Talk about it – Reading stories together about friendship and differences opens the door for great conversations.
Celebrate small moments – When a child makes room for someone new, give them a little encouragement. Those small steps lead to lifelong habits.
Let’s remind our kids that friendship isn’t just about who we play with—it’s about how we make others feel. By teaching inclusivity, we’re helping raise a generation that values kindness, connection, and the joy of welcoming others.
